Conductor Martin Lehmann
Kreuzkantor Martin Lehmann
joined the Dresdner Kreuzchor in 1983. He studied choral conducting at the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music in Dresden under Prof. Hans-Christoph Rademann. During this period, Lehmann was the artistic assistant to the Dresden Chamber Choir and the joint founder and director of the chamber choir cantamus dresden. He also held a teaching position at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden (Dresden College of Music).
In 2001, Martin Lehmann became the director of the Leipzig girls’ choir Schola Cantorum and in 2005 he was appointed the musical director of the Wuppertaler Kurrende. In 2012, he took over the artistic direction of the renowned Windsbacher Knabenchor (Windsbach boys’ choir). During his ten-year leadership, the choir regularly gave guest performances at some of the world’s leading festivals and in international venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, the Shanghai Oriental Art Center and the Tonhalle in Zurich. Martin Lehmann has worked with renowned ensembles, such as the Freiburger Barockorchester (Freiburg Baroque Orchestra), the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin (Academy for Early Music Berlin), the Ensemble 1704 Prague, the Concerto Palatino and the WDR Big Band. His varied career is documented by numerous competition successes and an extensive discography.
In 2017, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria recognised Lehmann’s services to church music and appointed him Church Music Director (KMD).
Martin Lehmann has been the 29th Kreuzkantor (Music Director) of the Dresdner Kreuzchor since September 2022. His repertoire includes the great choral works of Bach, Handel, Mozart and Mendelssohn, as well as sacred and secular a cappella choral music from all periods.
